Micromax unleashes the Funbook – at Rs 6,499 tablet


Micromax has joined the league of promoting education in the country through tablets by introducing the Funbook, a tablet that aims to provide education and entertainment – for as little as Rs 6,499!
18_Face-to-FaceThe tablet that runs on Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.3) comes packed with 17.78cm (800x480 pixels) capacitive display, is 1 cm thick, and runs on a 1.2 GHz processor. It comes with 512 MB RAM, and has 4GB internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32 GBwith the help of a MicroSD card. In addition to this, it has got a 0.3-megapixel VGA front facing camera and HD video playback that supports all popular formats.
Micromax says that the device is targeted at 67% of the total urban youth population, which is about 20 million, who want to own a computing device for learning as well as fun.
“Fun and education are two important elements of a youth’s life; they always try to balance between what they have to do and what they want to do. With the launch of Funbook, we are offering a smart solution to solve this dilemma, and we believe that Funbook will help in creating a balance between the two,” said Deepak Mehrotra, CEO, Micromax during the product launch.
Micromax has entered into partnerships with a number of prominent players to provide education and entertainment content on the tabley. These include Pearson and Everonn for getting the students unique and relevant content, and Bigflix, Zinga and Indiagames for gaming and entertainment content.
“We will offer our school curriculum- learning modules, IIT/ JEE test preparation module and at home live tuition products on Funbook. Students can now have access to good teachers, educational content and a great learning experience anytime anywhere,” said Susha John, director and CEO, Everonn Education.
To increase the value proposition of the device, Micromax has tied up with Tata Photon + to bundle its EVDO data card with 1 GB free data download for two months. The device which is priced at Rs 6,499 will be available across all leading stores in India. Buyers can also order the tablet online from Micromax’s newly launched e-store.
