Review: Norton Internet Security 2012

“NIS 2012 features a bolstered up defence suite to protect you from viruses without compromising your PC's performance”

Updating its PC protection suite, Norton has launched Norton Internet Security 2012 in the market to keep you one step ahead cyber criminals and protect your PC from maladies like viruses and malwares. The NIS 2012 edition features several new improvements over the 2011 edition, in terms of further simplified interface, optimised SONAR detection, bandwidth monitor, etc.
norton-internet-security_21The NIS user interface has been updated for the third time a row to make it more simpler and faster. Hence, the main window hosts just scan, update and advanced tabs, which are universally the most used features of an anti-virus software. The rest of the options have been swept under the tabs on the top and bottom of the window. The simplified design helps lighten the load on your system, consuming less resources and providing better protection at the same time.
Norton's SONAR or Symantec Online Network for Advanced Response also gets some optimisation in the latest edition. SONAR is designed to secure your PC from threats in real-time. It continuously scans your Internet activity and system processes and blocks the pages or applications, which it considers as probable viruses, malware, etc. The high risk applications are blocked automatically, while a popup opens for low risk ones. However, we believe that Norton should further tweak it up as it still gives false alarms sometimes.
The System Insight monitor tracks the system applications and warns the user about the apps which are slowing down the system performance. Norton Safe Web toolbar also comes bundled with the software which alerts the user about potentially malicious links to help you steer clear of the websites laden with worms and malware.
The NIS 2012 also serves as a platform for the debut of the latest tool in Norton's kitty – the Bandwidth awareness feature. It keeps a tab on the usage of your network adapter and blocks potential malware apps from using the Internet connection to steal your data. An optimization tool has also been thrown in to help you speed up your system boot time by optimising the number of startup applications.
The Norton Internet Security 2012 again proves itself to be one of the top anti-virus products in the market without compromising your PC's performance. NIS 2012 is available in the Indian market for Rs 1,165 for a one year pack for one PC and Rs 2,530 for a one pack for three PCs. The users have the option to either download it directly from the Norton website or opt for a retail pack from the market.
